Skin Cancer Removal Procedures

A Personalized Approach

Once a skin cancer diagnosis is confirmed, treatment planning begins. The right option depends on the type of cancer, its size, depth, and location, as well as your age, overall health, and cosmetic concerns. At Heritage Dermatology, all treatments are performed in our state-of-the-art facility under local anesthesia, with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and outcomes.

Excision
Excision is one of the most common treatments for skin cancer. A thin layer of cancerous tissue is removed and processed in our own office. You physician views this section under a microscope to ensure that
no cancer remains. If the tissue is not clear of cancerous cells, the
process is repeated until clear.” The sample is sent to a laboratory to confirm that all cancer cells have been cleared. If cancer remains, a second procedure may be necessary. Excision offers cure rates close to 95 percent and is highly effective for many nonmelanoma cancers.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Mohs surgery is the most precise surgical method available and offers the highest cure rates. Thin layers of cancerous tissue are removed one at a time and examined under a microscope until no cancer remains. This technique preserves as much healthy tissue as possible, making it especially valuable for tumors on the face, nose, lips, or eyelids. While Mohs surgery may take several hours, it achieves the best balance of cure and cosmetic outcome. At Heritage Dermatology, our dermatologists are fellowship-trained in Mohs surgery and skilled in advanced reconstruction.

At Heritage Dermatology, our goal is to provide precise, effective, and compassionate treatment for every patient. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are critical for the best outcomes.
